Amphibians are vertebrates that live on land and in water.

Amphibian means "double life."

Amphibians have a "double life" because they lay thousands of small, soft, jelly-like eggs in the water, but as they grow they spend more time on land.

This process is called metamorphosis
Many amphibians go through metamorphosis: they begin life in the water and have gills. Later they develop lungs and are able to move to land
Baby amphibians look completely different than adult amphibians!

Amphibians are cold-blooded. This means their body temperature depends on the temperature outside.
They may use a sunny spot to warm up and use water or shade to cool down.
